A professional, respected faculty is the cornerstone of the Walden learning experience. Our faculty includes skilled educators and practitioners in business, education, nursing, and other fields.

Faculty Training, Development, and Support

Orientation

The Office of Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring Excellence (OTLME) orients new faculty members to the university and helps prepare them to teach in our online learning environment. Newly hired faculty members complete an instructor-led orientation using Canvas or Brightspace, depending on their teaching assignment. For doctoral faculty, there are additional training sessions aimed at equipping them to address the specific needs of doctoral students. These training courses are designed with collaborative partners to meet faculty and academic leader needs. The trainings incorporate accessible and inclusive curriculum and resources that promote faculty expertise while supporting student and faculty-centered initiatives and providing ongoing support under a community of care umbrella throughout a faculty member’s journey at Walden University.

Training and Development

We develop and facilitate ongoing training and resources to support current faculty as they promote accessibility and excellence in an online learning environment.

Support

Coaching is available to our faculty, with opportunities to engage in confidential one-on-one solution-focused sessions. These sessions offer collaboration opportunities for faculty to focus on solutions for areas such as providing substantial feedback, enhancing pedagogy and assessment methods, and improving teaching strategies. Our Faculty Support Agents (FSAs) within OTLME provide personalized instructional technology assistance and mentoring to faculty members through various means to support their digital fluency.

Instructional Design

OTLME has a team of experienced instructional designers who are proficient in utilizing various authoring tools and learning management systems to create training and development resources. They aim to foster creativity and produce innovative and engaging resources through close collaboration with subject matter experts. The resources, which include self-paced modules, videos, podcasts, webinars, and other relevant materials, are designed to meet the specific needs of Walden’s faculty members and academic leaders.
