In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Matt Buckley earned his master's and doctoral degrees in Community Counseling (1993) and Counselor Education and Supervision (1997) from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. He worked for Delta State University as an Associate Professor and Chair of the Division of Counselor Education and Psychology from 1997-2008 and was the former program director for Walden’s M.S. in Mental Health Counseling Program from 2008-2013. Currently Dr. Buckley serves as a senior core faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. He has been a counselor educator and supervisor since 1997 and a mental health counselor since 1993. He is also a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families and is very active in professional organizations and in the profession of counseling at state and national levels. He has worked as a site team chair and team member for CACREP since 1998 and as a member of the National Certified Mental Health Counselor Exam (NCMHCE) committee for the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) from 2003-2018. He is a national certified counselor (NCC), licensed professional counselor (LPC and CMHC), an approved clinical supervisor (ACS) and a distance credentialed counselor (DCC). He has worked since 1999 on program and curriculum development and in supporting counselor development in training programs and post-master’s professional development.
