Our Most Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a cost to apply to Walden University?

No, there is no application fee. Contact a Walden Enrollment Specialist for more information about the application process, or start your application now.

When should I request my official transcripts from the schools I’ve attended?

We encourage applicants to request their official transcripts as soon as they decide to apply to Walden. An early request for official transcripts can help smooth the admissions process and ensure transfer of credit is correctly awarded, if eligible, and financial aid, if applicable, is processed without delay.

How do I apply for financial aid?

Applying for federal financial assistance is a two-part process consisting of (1) completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and notification of eligibility, and (2) acceptance of the financial aid offer and completion of the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and entrance counseling. This process takes approximately two to four weeks from the initial application through the receipt of funds. New students are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA at the same time they are applying for admission. Continuing students are required to complete a renewal FAFSA for each award year they are enrolled. A good practice is to complete the renewal FAFSA when it becomes available in October, but at least eight weeks prior to each award year renewal date.

Which FAFSA do I need to fill out?
  • If you started your program on or after May 29, 2023, fill out the 2023–2024 FAFSA.

  • If you are starting your program on or after May 27, 2024, fill out the 2024–2025 FAFSA.

Am I required to complete an orientation?

No, but the best preparation for success in your program is to take advantage of it. You will have access to the classroom orientation in your portal for six months.

How do I get a transfer of credit evaluation?

Your Enrollment Specialist can start the process for a preliminary evaluation of transfer of credit. You will need to provide your transcripts, and your Enrollment Specialist can also help you explore other potential sources of academic credit, such as military training or professional experience or credentials. You can reach an Enrollment Specialist at 866-492-5336.

How can I connect online with others from my degree program?

You can connect with others in our Walden Facebook group community. Visit our Facebook Group Finder to get started.

When and where is the next commencement ceremony?

The list of future planned commencements are listed below. Please check the commencement website for the most up to date information on logistics and ceremony details for each event. We will update the Commencement website with the most current ceremony logistics including the full schedule, hotel information, number of tickets, and more once those details are available.

  • Summer 2022 Commencement: June 23-25, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas.

  • Winter 2023 Commencement: January 19-21, 2023, at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida

  • Summer 2023 Commencement: July 20-23, 2023, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida

Please note that we strongly advise all graduates (and their support networks) to refrain from making travel or accommodation arrangements prior to successfully registering to attend commencement. Graduates should proceed with making travel and accommodation plans once they have registered for commencement and they have received the full schedule of events.

Where can I buy Walden gear?

You can purchase WaldenGear at www.waldengear.com.

What's the difference between official and unofficial transcripts?

An unofficial transcript is one that has been previously opened by you or anyone else before being sent to Walden’s Admissions Office; an unofficial transcript is used for review only during the application and admissions process. An official transcript is sent directly to Walden from the registrar’s office of the institution you are requesting the transcript from.

You can apply to Walden using unofficial transcripts if all required information is included (name of institution previously attended, student name, grades earned, credits earned, degree earned, course names/numbers, and dates of attendance). But keep in mind, you will need your official transcripts to ensure transfer of credit is applied and financial aid is processed, if applicable.
