Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Investing in an employee’s college education is a smart move. Research shows that companies offering tuition assistance tend to attract employees who are more productive, more deeply engaged, and who stay longer, thereby reducing turnover.1
Here’s another smart move: establishing an educational partnership with an accredited online university that gives your employees the choice and flexibility they need to continue their education. Meet Walden University!
More than 50 years ago, Walden was founded to support adult learners in achieving their academic goals and making a greater impact in their professions and communities. Today, students from across the U.S. and more than 115 countries are pursuing a certificate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree online at Walden, which is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission.
Walden has partnered with a global collection of businesses, healthcare systems, school districts, and other organizations to offer higher education solutions that can help drive employee and business success. If you’re ready to invest in the growth and development of your workforce, consider partnering with Walden to create tailored education solutions that meet your organization’s goals.
Here are five of the many great reasons to choose Walden as your partner:
1. Tuition Reduction and Other Ways to Save
Tuition assistance is the most common financial aid source for students earning college degrees.1 A Walden University education partnership may help extend the benefits your organization offers through exclusive tuition reduction opportunities that can help offset out-of-pocket costs for your employees.2 Program-specific grants and scholarships also may be available and can help motivate your employees to develop the skills you value—and that can enhance and advance their careers.
2. Value Beyond the Degree
A Walden educational partnership offers support for your internal initiatives, including live and on-demand webinars, year-round appreciation events for partner organizations, and virtual and in-person site visits. Partners have access to Walden’s subject matter experts for co-branded professional development programs. There are also nursing continuing professional development activities3 through a year-round, on-demand webinar series, presented by healthcare industry experts.
3. Tailored Education Solutions
Walden knows that there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to higher education. That’s why a Walden education partnership includes one-on-one consultations to address your workforce’s needs. Walden’s student and employer value-driven pathways focus on core competencies. With more than 100 online degree and certificate programs, and hundreds of for-credit single courses, you’ll find opportunities for all employees to pursue their career goals. Plus, there’s ongoing dedicated marketing support to help communicate these exciting benefits to your staff.
4. Flexible Learning Options
Walden infuses its online college degree programs with best practices developed over more than five decades of providing distance education. Recognizing that schedules and learning styles are different, Walden offers learning options to help boost student success. Your employees can earn a degree in a traditional course-based format, or in Tempo Learning®, a competency-based format that is available in select programs. Tempo Learning® allows students to apply the existing knowledge they’ve accrued in their careers and potentially move faster toward their goals.
5. Innovation in Higher Education
Walden’s dedication to continuous innovation is reflected in its growing array of cutting-edge tools, like Study Buddy, a time management app, and Charlotte, a 24/7 virtual support assistant which is now used by 15,000 students each term. Walden also offers state-of-the-art online classroom tools. Nurses earning master’s degrees online use i-Human patient simulation software and strength-finding tools to make their learning experience personalized, interactive, and effective.
Walden offers working professionals enrolled in any of Walden’s online courses or certificate or degree programs the tools they need to realize their postsecondary education and career goals. Comprehensive student support services are always just a click, email, or call away.
Enrollment Specialists help prospective students choose an online learning path. The Academic Skills Center is a repository of student success tools—from weekly group tutoring sessions to one-on-one appointments. School-life balance tools help working professionals maximize their time to fully engage in career, school, and home life.
Walden is dedicated to helping working professionals gather the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in their careers, and in your place of business. Discover how Walden’s partner-first approach can put higher education within reach of all your employees.
