Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

There seems to be no shortage of higher education institutions. Universities abound, and so do the ways students in bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and certificate programs can learn: online, in person, or in a hybrid format. If you’re looking to go back to school to earn your degree, narrowing down your options can be a daunting task. To help you in your search, here are three great reasons why Walden has been the university of choice for so many individuals all over the world.
The prevalence and value of online universities and education continue to grow. For the past 50 years, Walden has supported working professionals in achieving their academic goals by providing distance education. Today, students from across the U.S. and 120 countries are pursuing their bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorates online at Walden. That’s because, when it comes to distance-learning programs, Walden has the experience and knowledge students look for when choosing a high-quality university that offers a flexible online learning platform.
One of the major benefits of earning your degree at Walden is the support you’ll receive along the way. As a student, you will have access to a range of services, from Enrollment Specialists and financial aid advisors to academic tutors and a Career Planning and Development Center. Walden also proudly offers a Military Services Team dedicated to providing comprehensive support to military students and families as well as a Student Wellness and Disability Services office that works to ensure students with disabilities have barrier-free access to Walden's programs and services. Additionally, throughout your time at Walden, you will have access to 24/7 technical assistance to help you navigate the online learning environment.
Walden’s promotion of social change and commitment to advancing the greater global good truly sets the university apart. Since 1970, Walden has provided a diverse community of working professionals with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioners and apply what they’ve learned to effect positive social change. When you decide to earn your degree at Walden, you become part of this movement. You become a part of a network of individuals who are dedicated to addressing key challenges and improving the lives of others in their communities and around the world.
A lot goes into the decision-making process when determining which school is right for you. During your search, it’s important to be mindful of your goals, schedule, and budget, as well as considering a university’s accreditation status, financial aid options, reputation, and program offerings. At Walden, an accredited university, you can earn your degree online while you continue to work full time. That means you can better maintain a work-life balance while you expand your credentials and further your skills. With online learning, there’s no need to put your life on hold or commute to a campus every day—you can take classes at whatever time of day works best for you and from wherever you happen to be in the world.
Walden University is an accredited institution offering high-quality online degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, as well as online certificate programs. Expand your career options and earn your degree using a convenient, flexible learning platform that fits your busy life.
