In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Bree Conklin has served in the field of social work since 2005. At present, she is the owner and founder of a group private practice serving a wide and diverse range of clients. Within her clinical practice, Dr. Bree specializes in chronic and complex trauma, grief and loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression and infant mental health. She is trained in Compassionate Bereavement Care, Circle of Security, Synergetic Play Therapy Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, EMDR, and Play Therapy. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Bree is the co-founder of Camp Missing Piece, a non-profit bereavement camp for children and adolescents who have experienced grief and loss. Dr. Bree’s academic instruction experience began in 2013 where she has since as served as an adjunct instructor with the University of West Florida in both the BSW and MSW programs. She has taught Capstone in Advanced Clinical Practice, Advanced Clinical & Field Seminar I & II, Clinical Practice with Individuals, Introduction to the Field of Social Work, and Adolescents At-Risk. In 2016, Bree was recognized as the Social Work Educator of the year by the Northwest Unit of the Florida Chapter for the National Association of Social Worker’s. Dr. Bree is an active member of the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health, Infant Mental Health Vision Council of Northwest Florida, National Association of Social Workers, Association for Play Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing International Association. She also serves on the University of West Florida Advisory Board. Dr. Bree Conklin’s formal academic training is primarily in social work she has completed both her Doctorate in Social Work through the University of Tennessee and Master of Social Work through the University of West Florida. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology through the University of West Florida. Dr. Bree’s current research interests include traumatic grief and loss, effective interventions for clinical work with bereaved children and adolescents, and care farming as an effective intervention for grief and loss.
