FAQ About Walden’s Online Master’s Business Programs
It depends on your career goals. If you’re certain you want to pursue human resource management as a career, a master’s in human resource management would serve you well. A human resource management degree program prepares students for human resource management careers with an intense HR-focused education.
If you’re interested in HR but are also interested in business in general, an MBA with a Human Resource Management specialization may be a good fit for you. MBA programs provide students with a comprehensive business education, with courses from marketing to accounting. Students may choose HR electives, but the education is comprehensive, not HR-focused.
If you’re considering MBA programs, you should consider several factors, from your personal goals to the financial cost of your chosen program. “You need to choose an MBA program that you have a passion for, and a specialization that aligns with your professional goals,” says Walden University MBA graduate Andre Lynch. Other factors to consider include whether you prefer an in-person or online program, and whether you want to be a full-time student or continue working while earning your MBA.
It depends. The length of time required to complete an MBA degree program varies widely depending on many factors, including your previous educational experience and the track and learning format you choose.
MBA students in the Standard Track take one course at a time in eight-week terms, which works out to two courses per academic semester. One-Year Fast-Track MBA students double up on courses to complete their MBA in one year, earning their degree in half the time of a traditional MBA program and saving on tuition.
In addition, the MBA program is offered in course-based and competency-based formats. Students in the course-based format follow a structured schedule with regular deadlines to make steady progress. In the competency-based format, students can progress at their pace and on their schedule. The competency-based format is available for the Healthcare Management and Project Management specializations.
An Enrollment Specialist can go over the options with you and discuss your individual time commitment.
Earning a Master of Business Administration typically takes two years. However, with Walden’s One-Year Fast-Track MBA option, you could complete your degree in just 12 months. This MBA option allows you to double up on your coursework, giving you the ability to complete all the degree requirements in a year.
Earning an MS in Human Resource Management can help you gain the strategic, organizational, management, and analytical skills that employers seek. A master’s in human resource management can prepare you for roles such as:
- Compensation and benefits manager
- Labor relations specialist
- Employee recruitment and staffing specialist
- Training and development specialist
- Human resource manager
Career options may require additional experience, training, or other factors beyond the successful completion of this degree program.
Obtaining certification from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) shows your dedication to the field and can give you a competitive advantage. You’ll gain knowledge and skills that will help inspire the trust and confidence of employers and colleagues. If you’d like to add SHRM certification to your HR credentials, Walden’s MS in Human Resource Management program offers SHRM preparation as a capstone option.
