Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

If you’re considering pursuing your master’s, the first step is to find the degree program that is right for you. But what comes next? And what exactly does the admission process entail? To help you on your path toward earning your advanced degree, we go over what you should know prior to enrolling in a master’s degree program at Walden University.
You can expect an Enrollment Specialist to provide you with support, ask you questions, and help you find a program that suits your needs. While it might seem like Enrollment Specialists ask a lot of questions, it’s the best way to help ensure that the degree program you choose is a good fit for you and can set you in the direction of your personal and professional goals.
During the decision-making process, it’s important that you not only identify the master’s program you wish to pursue, but also your preferred learning style. That’s because there are a variety of ways to study and learn at Walden. For instance, some master’s programs are not entirely virtual and require in-person residencies. Others may offer a competency-based option in addition to the traditional course-based option. It’s important to know the different formats that are available before enrolling so that you can ultimately choose the master’s program that is right for you.
Sometimes the admission process can be daunting. That’s why it’s good to know that Walden has designed its process to be as easy as possible. An Enrollment Specialist will work with you each step of the way, from discussing program offerings and options to providing funding information to answering any questions you may have. And unlike other universities, there is no application fee when you apply to Walden.
Once enrolled, the support doesn’t end. As a student, you will have access to a range of support services, including academic tutors, a Career Planning and Development Center, 24/7 technical assistance, writing services, and more. Walden also has a Military Services Team dedicated to providing comprehensive support to military students and families, as well as a Student Wellness and Disability Services Office that works to ensure students with disabilities have barrier-free access to programs and services. From enrollment through to graduation, you can count on Walden to give you the support you need to succeed.
