Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

An MS in Human Resource Management can help you develop and hone the communication skills you need to advance your HR career. And Walden University’s online master’s in human resource management degree program gives you the tools to do just that.
Walden’s program offers an innovative virtual reality simulation tool called Mursion that lets master’s candidates practice high-stakes conversations in a safe environment. The immersive experience begins as students meet the HR department in a fictitious organization where they will participate as problem-solving professionals. Students engage in interactive simulations throughout the curriculum, using a customized set of responsive avatars.
With Mursion, you learn by doing. Engaging and authentic experiences simulate challenging interpersonal exchanges. You’ll practice skills that include verbal and nonverbal communication, listening, interviewing, and coaching and mentoring. And you’ll collaborate with colleagues and instructors to reflect on and improve these skills.
In partnering with Mursion, Walden joins other innovators like the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), which selected the simulation technology to use in learning institutes for school leaders.1
