Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Discover career opportunities in your area that match your interests.
If your interests point to a career in healthcare administration, there are a couple of strong reasons why now might be just the right time to head in that direction.
First, the job outlook is bright. Labor experts say that employment of medical and health services workers will grow by 28% between 2022–2032, and an additional 144,700 professionals will be working in the field by 2032.1 Just for comparison, the average growth rate for all occupations is 4%.
Second, there is an innovative online learning format that, for many working professionals, is a flexible path to earning a degree. Walden University offers a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree program in its signature Tempo Learning® format. Self-paced, with an all-you-can learn subscription model, Tempo Learning® is a popular choice for adult learners with busy lives who are eager to earn an MHA degree and use the skills they’re learning right away.
To learn why so many of Walden’s online master’s in healthcare administration students choose the competency-based learning format—and to see if it’s the right choice for you—here are some of Tempo Learning’s innovative features:
In traditional degree programs, you progress course by course. In Walden’s online MHA degree program in the Tempo Learning® format, you’ll demonstrate competencies instead of completing courses. Competencies are the skills, knowledge, and abilities you’ll need to be successful in your healthcare administration career. Completing these competencies ensures that as a graduate, you’ll be able to show your current or future employers the specific skills and abilities you learned in your MHA program.
All of our lives are busy in different ways. That’s why Walden’s competency-based learning format adapts to your style—not a calendar. There are no weekly deadlines and you decide when and where to work. All you need is a laptop and WiFi connection. And with Tempo Learning®, you set the pace: slow down, speed up, or keep it steady. This flexibility is an attractive feature for master’s in healthcare administration students who are generally earning a degree while also working and enjoying their personal lives.
When you earn your MHA degree in the Tempo Learning® format, you’ll subscribe to three-month learning periods instead of paying for courses or credit hours. This is an all-you-can-learn tuition model, so the number of competencies you complete during a learning period is up to you.
Walden’s competency-based format can help you earn a master’s degree in a healthcare administration program that can give you the tools you need to lead with excellence and vision. In your coursework, you’ll explore the trends, regulations, laws, best practices, and health policies that impact today’s health systems.
When you earn a degree—whether to advance your career or to shift into healthcare administration, your future job roles may include:2
If your career goals lie in the dynamic, growing field of healthcare administration, consider earning a degree in Walden’s competency-based learning format. It is a popular choice for MHA degree-seekers at Walden.
