Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Discover career opportunities in your area that match your interests.
If you’re looking to further your career and become a confident business leader—whether in your current role or by tapping into new opportunities—earning your advanced degree is a great starting point. But if your background is in marketing, you may find yourself unsure about whether to pursue a master’s specific to the field or the broader master’s in business administration degree. Though both have their benefits, many career-climbers would consider a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree to be the better option. To avoid experiencing decision paralysis, explore the reasons why choosing an MBA program might be the best path forward.
1. You can position yourself for management roles.
More than ever, organizations are prioritizing project management and leadership, which means developing these competencies is critical. A high-quality MBA degree program—like the one at Walden University—will feature a curriculum designed with these and other in-demand skills in mind. Walden’s Master of Business Administration program even offers a Project Management specialization, so you can be sure to meet the needs of today’s employers.
2 .You can open yourself up to more employment opportunities—and a higher salary.
According to the annual Corporate Recruiters Survey conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council, the median MBA salary for 2021 is $115,000.1 Numbers from the same survey indicate that over 90% of recruiters plan to hire MBAs through 2021.1
3. You can diversify your professional network.
The connections you make can greatly impact the trajectory of your career. And when you enroll in an online MBA program, you become part of a cohort of lifelong learners with diverse backgrounds and industry experience. From networking with marketing heads to healthcare professionals to human resource managers, you can expand your list of contacts far beyond your own field. Not only do these connections provide a richer educational experience that can lead to the insight you need to tap into future opportunities, but you also can become an invaluable resource for others.
4. You can enhance your innovative thinking.
Creativity flows best when you’re inspired to think outside the box. And what can encourage innovative thinking more than being exposed to a wide range of ideas and perspectives? This is one of most rewarding aspects of MBA coursework. In addition to gaining the hard skills you need to demonstrate functional expertise in the business world, you can also hone your soft skills and creative prowess—the perfect combination for marketing professionals and aspiring business leaders alike.
5. You can align your MBA program with your interests.
When you decide to earn your MBA, you can tailor your studies to your experience and interests. In addition to the Project Management specialization, Walden’s online MBA program also offers specializations in Healthcare Management and Human Resource Management. There’s also a Self-Designed option that gives you the opportunity to build your own Master of Business Administration specialization so that you can better align your program with your professional objectives.
