Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Discover career opportunities in your area that match your interests.
If you want to make the world a healthier place, a career in public health might be for you. Of course, the first step in starting a professional public health career is earning a bachelor’s degree in public health—and it could be more achievable than you ever imagined. Discover five ways that Walden University’s BS in Public Health program provides flexibility.
1. You can earn your degree online.
At Walden, an accredited university, you can earn your bachelor’s online while you continue to work full time. Most courses are accessible 24 hours a day, so you can study at a time that suits your schedule. And you won’t have to drive to a campus, find parking, and sit in a classroom. You’ll be able to take courses online from any location with internet access, whether that’s from home, on the road, or in the office after hours.
2. You can choose from a traditional course schedule or Tempo Learning®.
If you prefer a structured pace, course-based learning will meet your needs. You’ll make steady progress by meeting regular deadlines. If you prefer a more flexible pace, Walden’s Tempo Learning® format could be the way to go. Rather than paying by course, you’ll pay a subscription fee that allows you to learn as much as you like in three months, and you can speed up or slow down as needed.
3. You can choose a specialization that aligns with your interests and goals.
In addition to a General Program, Walden offers three specializations so that you can take the courses that best suit your career aspirations. You can choose Healthcare Management if you’re interested in a role in a healthcare organization; Health Promotion and Wellness if you want to work in nutrition, fitness, and health communications; or Health Psychology and Behavior if you’re focused on research or clinical settings. If you’d prefer a broad base of public health knowledge, the General Program incorporates public health fundamentals, health behavior theories, and healthcare delivery.
4. The skills you learn will be applicable to a variety of jobs.
Public health is a broad field, and a bachelor’s degree in public health can prepare you for work in a variety of settings—including hospitals, nonprofit organizations, government health departments, or clinics. Career options could include such roles as community health worker, health educator, research assistant, or healthcare administrator, to name just a few.1
5. You can work toward a master’s degree while earning your bachelor’s.
If you know you’ll want to continue your studies and eventually earn a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) or an MS in Health Education and Promotion, you can opt for Accelerate Into Master’s (AIM). This track allows Walden bachelor’s in public health students to earn up to 20 master’s-level credit hours while completing an undergraduate degree. This can save time and money when you pursue an online master’s degree in public health.
With Walden University’s BS in Public Health online degree program, you can receive a quality education in public health in a cutting-edge online environment. Whether you want to go on to pursue an MHA or start working in public health right away, Walden’s bachelor’s in public health program can give you the knowledge you need to start a career helping others be healthy.
