Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

The healthcare industry needs many hands to keep it running smoothly—and not all of those hands belong to doctors and nurses. Individuals in healthcare management oversee the business side of healthcare providers, ensuring that patients receive the care they require and that medical facilities offering those services deliver them effectively. Healthcare management professionals work in all types of settings, from overseeing medical offices and nursing homes to hospital administration and health insurance firms. Entering the field offers several benefits, including a variety of employment opportunities, potential job growth, and the ability to help others. Learn how a BS in Healthcare Management can help.
America is aging—by 2030, one out of five Americans will be 65 or older.1 The senior population often grapples with illness and infirmity, requiring aid from care providers and facilities. Between this trend and the continually changing healthcare laws and regulations, the need for medical and health services managers is projected to rise 28% by 2031, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, creating more than 136,000 new jobs.2 This means that those seeking employment may have an easier time finding positions in healthcare management than some other fields.
The field of healthcare management provides challenges, triumphs, and day-to-day demands that test your mettle. The healthcare industry as a whole emphasizes helping others, allowing you to make a difference while earning a living. U.S. News & World Report ranked medical and health service managers No. 1 on its Best Business Jobs list, No. 4 on its 100 Best Jobs list, and No. 4 on its Best STEM Jobs list.3 Between the possibility of earning a competitive healthcare manager salary and the daily possibility of touching people’s lives, positions in the field can be fulfilling.
