Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Walden University’s BS in Health Studies online program provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to positively impact community health—and their future.
Health studies graduates will be prepared to evaluate health and wellness programs; assess health issues in relation to class, race, ethnicity, and culture; explain how behavioral, social, and cultural factors impact community health; and so much more.
Students personalize their career path through one of three concentrations:
Healthcare Management
This concentration is ideal for those who seek a management or leadership position in the healthcare field. In addition to the core courses of the BS in Health Studies program, students explore topics such as healthcare finance and organizational theory and behavior. Possible career paths include healthcare management and healthcare consulting.
Health Promotion and Wellness
This concentration is for individuals who seek to improve community health and well-being. Students examine current public health issues and learn strategies for addressing prevention and wellness in their communities. Coursework is designed to prepare graduates to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam.
Health Psychology and Behavior
This concentration is for those who seek to inform, encourage, and motivate people to change unhealthy behaviors and adopt healthier lifestyles. Students study the social, behavioral, emotional, and cognitive factors associated with illness, disease, and injury. Possible future work environments include research, clinical, or community service settings.
Due to an increasingly aging population, healthcare workers are in high demand. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the healthcare sector is expected to add more jobs than any other sector in the coming years. Employment in healthcare is projected to grow 16% between 2020 and 2030, adding 2.6 million new jobs.1
An online degree in health studies from Walden University can prepare graduates to pursue healthcare jobs in areas such as community health, wellness coaching, pharmaceutical or medical device sales, and more.
