Dear Walden Community,
Walden University is unyielding in its commitment against racism and discrimination in all its forms, and we will continue to firmly speak out and strongly condemn intolerance, discrimination, and violence. We stand firmly against all racially and ethnically motivated acts of intimidation and violence. Sadly, over the past year, we have witnessed an increase in hate speech and violence. This includes attacks against members of the Asian community largely fueled by COVID-19 pandemic rhetoric and xenophobia.
Walden is dedicated to an inclusive and equitable university community and world, one that reflects our mission of service and positive social change. As we stand together with our Asian and Asian American colleagues, classmates, friends, and neighbors, we do so as one university committed to anti-racism in all its forms.
For more than 50 years, our university has welcomed students, faculty, and staff from around the world with a culture that respects all people, regardless of nationality, race, religion, ethnic origin, disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation. When we encounter discrimination, hatred, or violence against another person based on their race, religion, or background, we must condemn these acts and join together in active opposition to injustice.
Walden’s mission of social change is intertwined with responsibility to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion not just in our university, but in our communities, our nation, and around the world. We can assure you that Walden will continue to address racism and bias in all its forms. Always.
We know you all join us in supporting Walden’s mission in your community and in making our university a welcome and safe environment for everyone.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ward Ulmer
