Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Dear Walden Community,
As Chair of the Walden University Board of Directors, I am writing to let you know that Paula R. Singer informed the Board of her decision to step down from the role of President, effective December 1, 2021, to focus on advancing her passion for education through new leadership and mentorship opportunities.
When notifying the Board of her decision, Ms. Singer noted that it is an exciting and energizing time for Walden, and the university is strong and well positioned for the future as part of Adtalem Global Education. Knowing this gave her confidence that the timing was right to pursue the next chapter and her life’s passion for advancing mentorship and educational opportunities for the underserved. Ms. Singer has been, and will continue to be, our university’s tireless champion. I know that all of you, like me, are truly grateful to Ms. Singer for her unyielding commitment and passion for the entire Walden community.
Ms. Singer provided many weeks’ time for the University to plan for the seamless continuity of leadership and successful progress of our students. The Adtalem Board of Directors has been working with the Walden University Board to conduct a national search for a new President for some time, and we expect to name a new president after the start of the new year. In the meantime, the Board has appointed Walden’s Chief Financial Officer, Roger McKinney, to also serve as Interim President of the university.
Before Adtalem’s acquisition of Walden from Laureate Education, Mr. McKinney served as the VP of Finance and CFO of Laureate Education’s Online, Partnerships and U.S. Campus institutions, including Walden University. During his 11-year tenure with Laureate, Mr. McKinney developed and led all aspects of financial operations and shared services, which included financial aid, bursar and collections. In addition, he worked in close collaboration with IT and Product Development. He also previously served as interim president of NewSchool of Architecture and Design and was a member of the Board of Directors of Les Roches School of Hotel Management Switzerland and Kendall College in Chicago.
Please join me in thanking Ms. Singer for her many years of dedication and service to our entire university community.
Toni L. Freeman
