Walden University Now Part of the Adtalem Global Education Family
Dear Walden University Students,

I am pleased to share that this morning Laureate Education finalized the transition of ownership of Walden University to Adtalem Global Education. This change of ownership has received all required regulatory approvals.
Adtalem is preserving Walden University’s name, mission and rich institutional legacy as a leader in online higher education for adult learners. Walden students will continue to attend the same classes to complete their same degree program. There is no change in your status, program or progress toward completion of your degree from Walden.
Walden has great synergy and alignment with the core values that shape how Adtalem works to fulfill its promise to students and the communities it serves. We share a mission of providing access to education that transforms lives, careers and communities. And we both believe that education empowers students to achieve their goals, find success, and drive positive social change in our global community.
We also both support advancing racial and gender diversity and equity in leadership roles across industries and business. That is why I believe that together, Walden and Adtalem will provide our nation with diverse graduates who have the talent and skills to answer workforce needs and a passion for advancing positive social change.
This transition honors Walden’s more than 50-year history, our commitment to our students and their success, and our mission of advancing Education for Good through access and social change. I strongly believe that this transition provides the entire Walden community with an innovative next step forward for the continued success of our students and our university.
Sincerely,
Paula R. Singer
CEO and Interim President

FAQ - What it Means for Walden Students
-
Walden and Adtalem share a mission of providing access to quality higher education with a focus on service to communities and the underserved. We are both dedicated to education for students of diverse backgrounds and experiences. Together, Walden and Adtalem will provide our nation with diverse graduates who have the talent and skills to answer workforce needs and a passion for advancing positive social change.
-
Adtalem intends to have the school continue as Walden University, which is of course a name with a more than 50-year reputation for quality, access and social change.
-
Walden will retain its current accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), as well as all its current programmatic and national accreditations. Our accreditations are granted based on the quality of our programs, the academic excellence of our faculty, and the focus we have on our students—not on whether we are owned by Laureate Education or Adtalem.
-
There should not be any additional time to graduation due to the change in ownership. As always, graduation depends on each individual student’s pace of study and progress through their program.
-
After the completion of the transfer of ownership, your degree will still be granted by Walden University.
-
The change in ownership structure will have no impact on the day-to-day experience of Walden’s students. Adtalem is preserving Walden University’s name, mission and rich institutional legacy as a leader in online higher education for adult learners. Walden students will continue to attend the same classes, with the same faculty, to complete the same degree program.
-
Adtalem has let us know that their intent is to ensure the continuation of a strong academic experience for students and Walden’s continued strong position as a leader in the higher education community.
Curriculum changes take place at all institutions of higher education in response to academic needs and demands of business and industry. Outside of this normal process, there should be no significant curriculum changes for current students as a result of the change in ownership. Both Walden and Adtalem intend to minimize any disruption to current students’ paths to completion.
