Walden University Announces New Master’s and Doctoral Psychology Degrees

Minneapolis—November 29, 2016—Walden University’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences has introduced an online MS in Developmental Psychology, PhD in Developmental Psychology, and PhD in Forensic Psychology to its portfolio of graduate programs, designed to equip students with the professional knowledge, skills and principles needed to help advance their careers and transform lives.

“With an emphasis in the psychology profession on improving the well-being of individuals, families and communities, Walden’s new degrees help prepare students to enhance their ability to address societal challenges and positively impact others,” said Dr. Marilyn Powell, dean of the School of Psychology.

Global developmental, health and mental health issues have created a growing demand for research, planning and advocacy to help children, adolescents and adults overcome real-world challenges. Coursework in the developmental psychology master’s and doctoral programs is intended to address relevant, contemporary societal issues, such as the effects of digital technology on human development or how needs of specific populations—such as LGBTQ or the elderly—differ. The goal is to help students understand and go on to positively impact people of all ages and backgrounds.

Students in Walden’s online MS in Developmental Psychology program may choose to enroll in the General Program or one of six specializations, including Administration and Leadership, Adult Development and Gerontology, Child and Adolescent Development, Health and Human Development, International Perspectives in Developmental Psychology, or a self-designed option.

For psychology professionals who seek to empower others as a researcher, teacher, administrator or consultant, Walden’s PhD in Developmental Psychology program offers a General Program and seven specializations that allow students to tailor their studies to their professional interests, including Administration and Leadership, Child and Adolescent Development, International Perspectives in Developmental Psychology, Health and Human Development, Research, Teaching or a self-designed option.

Walden’s new PhD in Forensic Psychology program allows students to explore the systems and programs that strive to create positive social change in the legal system and community settings. By broadening their understanding of advanced forensic psychology and relevant ethical codes, students will be able to examine ways to evaluate programs designed for populations such as the incarcerated, recently released offenders, the mentally ill and juvenile offenders.

Students in the PhD in Forensic Psychology program may choose the General Program or one of six specializations to align with their specific career goals, including Crisis Leadership Management, Crisis Response, Legal Issues in Forensic Psychology, Victimology, and two self-designed options: Criminal Justice Self-Designed and Self-Designed.

The MS in Developmental Psychology, PhD in Developmental Psychology and PhD in Forensic Psychology are not licensure programs and do not prepare an individual to become a licensed psychology professional.
