Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis - January 8 , 2016 - Ziauddin Yousafzai, educator and human rights activist, will be the keynote speaker at Walden University's 55th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
Ziauddin Yousafzai inspired his daughter, Malala Yousafzai, the youngest-ever Nobel Laureate, to raise her voice to promote every child's right to an education. He hails from Pakistan's Swat Valley where, facing great personal risk and grave political violence, he peacefully resisted the Taliban's efforts to shut down schools and kept his own school open.
Yousafzai is the cofounder and chairman of the board for the Malala Fund. He also serves as the United Nations special advisor on global education and as an educational attache to the Consulate General of Pakistan in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
"Ziauddin Yousafzai is a true visionary who views education as critical for every boy and girl. We look forward to him sharing his remarkable story with our graduates and guests as Walden's commencement speaker," said Jonathan Kaplan, president of Walden.
