Walden University’s BS in Information Technology Program Receives ABET Accreditation

Minneapolis—October 22, 2013—Walden University’s BS in Information Technology program has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of ABET, the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. ABET accreditation demonstrates the university’s commitment to providing its students with quality programs.

“We are very proud of this significant accomplishment, especially since our BS in Information Technology program is one of only a few online degree programs to receive ABET accreditation,” said Dr. L. Ward Ulmer, associate dean of the School of Information Systems and Technology. “This accreditation further demonstrates the quality of our information systems and technology programs, support services, and the commitment of our faculty and staff to provide students with a quality education.”

ABET accreditation provides validation that the program meets recognized quality standards set by the information technology profession. The accreditation also provides assurance that graduates will be well prepared to enter and lead as practicing IT professionals, and it is seen as a recognition of education quality by employers, who actively recruit program graduates.

ABET is a not-for-profit organization, owned and operated by more than 30 professional and technical member societies. An internationally respected organization with approximately 2,200 volunteers, ABET has set the standards for higher education in its fields for 80 years. ABET is a recognized accreditor in the United States (U.S.) by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
