Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—August 20, 2012—Walden University, an institution of higher education with a mission of effecting positive social change, invites the general public to join its global community of students, alumni, faculty and staff to participate in its seventh annual Global Day of Service on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012. Volunteers can join more than 130 community service projects making a difference in 15 countries and 80 cities around the world.
This year members of the Walden community are leading projects that include working in food banks; cleaning up roads, beaches and parks; holding drives to donate food, clothing, infant and maternity items, and coats for veterans; sorting and preparing medical supplies; and leading activities to benefit local children such as reading and arts and crafts. There are also several virtual projects that can be done anywhere, which include supporting U.S. troops through a letter-writing campaign and sending postcards to ill children.
Those who wish to participate in Walden’s Global Day of Service should register as a member of the Walden Service Network at www.WaldenU.edu/servicenetwork. Members can search the network to locate a project near them and sign up to volunteer on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Walden’s Global Day of Service marks one day a year when the university’s entire community can come together to make a greater difference and demonstrate how positive social change can impact the world in just 24 hours. In 2011, nearly 3,700 volunteers participated in service projects around the world—of which more than one-third spanned Central and South America, Africa, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.
Since its founding in 1970, Walden has attracted a community of lifelong learners who share a common desire to make a difference. Walden students, alumni, faculty and staff members bring Walden’s mission to life through research, conferences and service projects focused on effecting positive social change.
