Walden University Announces Recipients of Caribbean Union of Teachers Scholarship

Minneapolis—November 8, 2011—As part of its continuing global education efforts, Walden University’s Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership announced today that it awarded four $5,000 scholarships to teachers who are members of a member unit of the Caribbean Union of Teachers. The scholarship program was created to recognize exceptional teachers in the region who seek to make a difference in their schools and communities.

Among other criteria, scholarships were awarded based on recipients’ essays describing how their education will help them reach personal goals and effect positive social change. The recipients of the Caribbean Union of Teachers scholarships are:

• Shenile Daniel, English teacher at Boca Secondary School, Grenada, who is enrolled in the MS in Education (MSEd) program with a specialization in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (Grades K–12). Daniel is a member of the Grenada Union of Teachers.
• Andrew Haynes, sciences information technology coordinator at St. Ambrose Primary School, Barbados, who is enrolled in the MSEd program with a specialization in Integrating Technology in the Classroom (Grades K–12). Haynes is a member of the Barbados Union of Teachers.
• Kenny James, vice principal at St. Rose Modern Secondary School, Grenada, who is enrolled in the MSEd program with a specialization in Teacher Leadership (Grades K–12). James is a member of the Grenada Union of Teachers.
• Ezra Jonah Fostin-Greene, principal at Clare Hall Secondary School, Antigua, who is enrolled in the MSEd program with a specialization in Integrating Technology in the Classroom (Grades K–12). Fostin-Greene is a member of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers.
