Walden University Faculty and Staff to Present at Sloan Consortium Conference
Minneapolis—November 2, 2011— Walden University announced today that multiple presentations were accepted for the 17th Annual Sloan Consortium International Conference on Online Learning, the premier global conference in online learning, in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Nov. 9–11, 2011. Faculty and staff members will deliver presentations highlighting faculty development, online learning and technology use. The conference brings together and engages individuals, institutions and organizations of higher education on topics of online learning.
Nine faculty and staff members from Walden will present at this year’s conference, which is titled “Online Learning, Teaching, and Research in the New Media Ecology.” Presentations include:
- Dr. Laurel Walsh, Center for Student Success; Dr. Jeff Zuckerman, Center for Student Success; and Amber Cook, the Writing Center, “The Role of Faculty Liaisons in Faculty Development Through Support Services”
- Dr. Colin Wightman, Dr. Kathy Faggiani and Dr. Karlyn Barilovits, School of Information Systems and Technology, “Attracting and Retaining Underrepresented Students in Computing: Are Online Programs Different?”
- Jenna Johnshoy and Sally Francis, Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, “Influencing Factors of Online Learning Technology Use and Satisfaction”
- Dr. Jonathan Cabiria, School of Psychology, “Augmented Reality: The Next Level of Immersive Learning”
In addition to the upcoming presentations, Walden’s research study “Linking Teacher Learning to Student Success” was recently published in the Sloan Consortium’s Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks (JALN), Vol. 15, Issue 2. This study of educational outcomes compared the reading fluency of students whose teachers have a master’s degree from Walden against that of students whose teachers do not have a master’s degree from Walden.
