Minneapolis—September 22, 2011—Jonathan Cohn, veteran journalist and author of Sick: The Untold Story of America’s Health Care Crisis—and the People Who Pay the Price, will speak at Walden University’s academic residency on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Hilton Atlanta.
As senior editor at The New Republic, Cohn has written about national politics and its influence on American communities for the past decade. His primary focus, healthcare, is the subject of his acclaimed book Sick. An advocate for universal health insurance, Cohn profiles patients struggling with the U.S. healthcare system to illustrate the toll the current model takes on Americans.
In reviewing Sick for the New York Times, Sally Satel wrote, “Cohn … lucidly shows how America’s system for financing medical care helps determine who gets proper medical attention and who doesn’t. He tells this story through the experiences of ordinary people … But Sick is much more than a meticulously drawn and moving compilation of crises. It is also an edifying primer on how we got here.”
Cohn’s articles have also appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Slate, Mother Jones and the Washington Monthly. He is also a senior fellow at the think tank Demos and a contributing editor at The American Prospect, where he served previously as the executive editor. A Harvard University graduate and a past media fellow with the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, Cohn resides in Ann Arbor, Mich., with his wife and children.
