Walden University President to Participate in Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting
Minneapolis—September 19, 2011—Jonathan A. Kaplan, president of Walden University, will participate in the “Bridging the Gender Digital Divide: Women and Jobs in Technology Fields” session at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York on Sept. 20, 2011. This session will discuss how to expand opportunities and the representation of women in the technology field that will define the 21st century workplace.
As part of this session, Kaplan will address the theme usability and literacy. Access to education continues to be a barrier for females around the world, and in many cultures, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and careers are male dominated. In addition to speaking on this topic, Kaplan will also help facilitate a small group discussion.
“As a higher education institution with a global student population that is almost 80% female, Walden is proud to provide women with the skills and knowledge needed to fulfill their career aspirations,” said Kaplan. “We hope our students will then take that knowledge and apply it to create meaningful social change in communities around the world.”
The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) brings together global leaders including heads of state, business people, philanthropists, foundation heads, religious leaders, academics and members of the media to develop and implement innovative solutions to pressing global challenges.
