Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—July 7, 2011—Sound public policy is a driving force behind the agencies and initiatives that successfully address the pressing issues facing our communities and our world. Walden University’s new online Master of Public Policy (MPP) program is designed to help students gain a solid foundation in formulating, implementing and evaluating programs and policies that impact society.
Walden’s online MPP program provides students with the knowledge and skills to evaluate policies, to examine methods for identifying societal problems and implementing policy change, and to apply a variety of data analysis methods as they study public policy issues.
Through a curriculum that blends theory and practice, students can explore the craft of policymaking and policy analysis, then apply what they learn immediately in their profession or prepare for a role in public policy management or leadership. Walden’s MPP offers 12 specializations, including Criminal Justice, Law and Public Policy and Nonprofit Management and Leadership, to help students align coursework with personal and professional goals.
For those who hold advanced degrees in public policy, a broad range of career opportunities may be available, including positions in all levels of government, nonprofit organizations, nongovernment organizations, higher education institutions and private-sector companies. The MPP can prepare graduates for a variety of positions, such as policy analyst, lobbyist, legislative aide, development manager, grant writer, nonprofit executive director or city government elected official.
The new degree program joins the portfolio of online graduate programs in the School of Public Policy and Administration, including Master of Public Administration (MPA), MS in Nonprofit Management and Leadership, MS in Criminal Justice, MS in Criminal Justice Leadership and Executive Management and PhD in Public Policy and Administration.
