Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—June 22, 2011—Information technology is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the U.S. economy, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Walden University is offering two new online master’s degree programs, an MS in Information Systems and an MS in Information Technology, to help meet the growing demand for qualified IT and IS professionals.
Walden’s MS in Information Systems focuses on the use of technology to generate, process and share information within an organization. Students learn ways to use information technology to enhance decision making and organizational effectiveness; explore the theory and practice of information security and data protection; and plan, manage and implement relevant and appropriate technologies. Students in the program can prepare for potential job opportunities such as computer systems analyst, computer database manager, information systems architect, computer software programmer and applications designer and engineer.
The MS in Information Technology program balances theory and the practical, real-world experience required for key information technology positions. Students explore emerging opportunities in the field to create, maintain and secure information systems. The program, offering specializations in Information Security and Software Engineering, is designed to prepare students for senior-level or leadership positions in engineering, programming, security and systems architecture, including positions in computer software engineering, information technology security, network/systems administration and programming.
Walden is also introducing a new online Graduate Certificate in Information Systems to help students gain the skills they need to transition to a career in the high-growth fields of information systems and information technology. Credits from this five-course certificate program may be applied toward Walden’s MS in Information Systems or MS in Information Technology.
The new programs join Walden’s portfolio of degree programs for both experienced IT professionals seeking to expand their skills as well as students with little or no technical experience looking to enter the field. Information technology and management programs and specializations include the BS in Computer Information Systems, BS in Information Technology, Master of Information Systems Management, PhD in Management with a specialization in Information Systems Management and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) with a specialization in Information Systems Management.
