Walden University Expands Criminal Justice Offerings

Minneapolis—May 18, 2011—Faced with an ever-changing landscape of domestic and international crime—including illegal acts committed using the latest technologies—the need for today’s criminal justice professionals to focus on an approach to policing that includes an emphasis on technology and policy analysis becomes increasingly evident. Walden University is now offering two new online master’s degrees in criminal justice to help these professionals meet the challenges of their daily work, advance their careers in criminal justice or prepare for an executive leadership role.

Walden’s new MS in Criminal Justice program is designed for criminal justice professionals interested in studying a unique blend of criminal behavioral theory, human services, technology, homeland security and management skills applicable to the challenges facing the law enforcement community. Students will evaluate the root causes of crime and their impact on criminal justice practices and procedures and also analyze how law enforcement, courts and corrections function and interact at the local, state and federal levels.

The MS in Criminal Justice Leadership and Executive Management program can help law enforcement professionals prepare for executive management roles in criminal justice or transition into a career in higher education or as a consultant. Students in this program learn about management philosophies as well as the budgeting and communication skills that criminal justice professionals require in order to create and influence policymakers.

Both programs include an emphasis on bridging the digital divide of technology and its use in functional areas of policing. The programs also relate policy analysis to the real world of policing to help prepare individuals to work closely with policymakers. Each program offers specializations in Emergency Management, Homeland Security Policy, Homeland Security Policy and Coordination, Law and Public Policy, Policy Analysis, Public Management and Leadership, and Terrorism, Mediation, and Peace as well as a Self-Designed option.
