Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—May 17, 2011—The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners has awarded Walden University initial accreditation of its BS in Business Administration, Master of Business Administration (MBA) and PhD in Management programs.
ACBSP accreditation certifies that the teaching and learning processes within Walden’s School of Management meet the rigorous educational standards established by ACBSP. ACBSP is a leading specialized accreditation association for business education supporting, celebrating and rewarding teaching excellence.
“Walden University has shown their commitment to teaching excellence and to the process of quality improvement by participating in the accreditation process,” said ACBSP Director of Accreditation Steve Parscale, who will present the Certificate of Initial Accreditation at the ACBSP Annual Conference in Indianapolis on June 26. “This accreditation is evidence that Walden University is committed to providing the highest quality business education for their students.”
“ACBSP accreditation is an affirmation, especially to Walden students and alumni, that our business programs meet exacting, internationally recognized standards for excellence in teaching and learning,” said Jonathan Kaplan, president of Walden University. “Walden is honored to be named an ACBSP-accredited institution, and we take great pride in the acknowledgement that our students have access to quality, state-of-the-art degree programs.”
Established in 1988, ACBSP is the only business accrediting organization for all associate, baccalaureate and graduate degree programs. Its standards are modeled on those of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, which is used by businesses, government and other organizations to continuously improve and recognize excellence. In 2001, ACBSP was recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
ACBSP continues to grow, having recently added its ninth region to better serve member institutions in Latin, Central and South America. There are currently more than 932 member campuses representing 519 different institutions, including 142 member campuses from outside the United States. There are 520 accredited campuses and 331 campuses in candidacy for accreditation, including 372 baccalaureate/graduate degree-granting institutions. ACBSP member institutions represent 48 different countries.
