Minneapolis—March 21, 2011—Human resource leaders are increasingly expected to understand and contribute to the operational strategies of their organizations in addition to fulfilling their traditional functional duties, such as recruiting, training and compensation. To help meet these new demands, Walden University is introducing an online MS in Human Resource Management degree program and adding a Human Resource Management specialization to the PhD in Management program.
The new master’s degree program gives students the opportunity to gain the skills and practical learning experience they need to further their career in human resources, whether they plan to enter the field or aspire to advance into an executive position. Three specializations—Functional Human Resource Management; Integrating Functional and Strategic Human Resource Management; and Organizational Strategy—address progressive stages of career development and encompass the strategic, organizational, management and analytical skills today’s employers seek.
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has evaluated, recognized and approved the alignment of Walden’s master’s degree in Human Resource Management with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates, which helps define human resource education standards. Additionally, students can stay current on best practices in the field and gain access to a wide network of human resource professionals through Walden’s virtual student chapter of SHRM.
Walden’s new Human Resource Management specialization, part of the PhD in Management degree program, can provide the skills for students to develop and apply the latest theories, concepts and tools to conduct research and to teach in areas such as strategic human resource management, organizational effectiveness and human capital development. Students explore the global and multidisciplinary aspects of human resource management and enhance their ability to develop solutions for strategic human resource initiatives.
The new human resources offerings join Walden’s suite of human resource management specializations in its Master of Business Administration (MBA), MS in Leadership, MS in Management and BS in Business Administration programs. For more information on the programs, visit www.WaldenU.edu/management.
