Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—June 3, 2010—Walden University, an online university providing distance education for working adults, was recently awarded “Best in Show” from the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA) for Walden’s television commercial entitled “Transformations.” The award was presented at the UCEA 95th Annual Conference held in April in San Francisco. Walden is the first exclusively online institution to win “Best in Show,” and this is the first year that a non-print ad won the title.
Walden’s commercial also won a gold award in the broadcast advertising (television) category, which UCEA gives to continuing education institutions that produce outstanding creative advertising campaigns.
The UCEA Marketing Awards recognize the best of marketing and promotional pieces in the field of continuing education. Out of the 46 gold-level winners, the panel of 12 judges, who have experience in both education and marketing, selected “Transformations” as the 2010 “Best in Show” based on consistency of design, purpose and effectiveness of the marketing message. Judges’ comments included “technically strong,” “nice transitions,” “compelling” and “very memorable.”
The commercial was one component of a fully integrated marketing campaign that Walden launched in 2009 to help increase awareness of the online university. The commercial features vignettes that represent Walden students bringing change to an urban neighborhood, a classroom, a hospital and an alternative energy project while moving forward in their careers.
The key message of the commercial is: If there's a higher purpose to your life and career, then Walden University’s online degree programs can give you the skills and credentials you need to maximize your influence, your accomplishments and your contributions to the greater good.
Walden also won silver in the most improved category for its redesigned Web site, which was launched in 2009. To view the Walden University commercial, visit www.Change.WaldenU.edu.
Since 1953, UCEA has awarded its members’ achievements in innovative programming, marketing and promotion, community development and services, research and publications, and many other areas. This year, 63 member institutions, big and small and from beyond the borders of the U.S., submitted 350 entries for this prestigious showcase of best practices in marketing.
