Dr. David Clinefelter Named Chief Academic Officer at Walden University

Minneapolis—April 15, 2010—Walden University has announced that David Clinefelter, PhD, has been named its new chief academic officer.

“We look forward to the leadership that Dr. Clinefelter will bring to Walden, especially as we celebrate 40 years of effecting positive social change. We are excited to have him join us in continuing to bring our mission to life,” said Jonathan Kaplan, president of Walden University.

Dr. Clinefelter has more than 25 years of experience as an educational leader at the university and K–12 levels at various institutions where he was responsible for academic administration, strategic planning, curriculum and faculty development, finance, board and public relations and student services. Most recently, Dr. Clinefelter served as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Kaplan University.

Prior to joining Kaplan, Dr. Clinefelter served as the president of Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, from 1997 through 2002, where he led its transition from a college into a university with the addition of graduate-level programs. Dr. Clinefelter also served as the vice president for academic affairs at Graceland from 1991 through 1997. Before that, he served as superintendent for Lamoni Community School for nine years and as the principal of Jonathan Alder Local Schools in Plain City, Ohio.

Dr. Clinefelter holds both a PhD in curriculum and teacher education and an MA in curriculum and instruction from The Ohio State University.
