Minneapolis—April 6, 2010—Walden University, a leading provider of online education, is now offering a BS in Political Science and Public Administration, empowering students to apply their passion for politics, public service and social change to a rewarding career in the public, private or nonprofit sectors.
“This bachelor’s degree program is different in that it offers the best of both worlds—a solid foundation of political science theory along with public administration skills that working professionals can apply immediately in their careers. The thoughtfulness that shapes the curriculum and the course design is truly distinctive,” said Robert Holsworth, PhD, Walden faculty member, nationally recognized political analyst and former director of the Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Aligned with Walden’s mission of effecting positive social change, the BS in Political Science and Public Administration degree program gives students the opportunity to explore the foundations of U.S. government as well as understand the tools, skills and strategies of successful public-sector leaders and the intricacies involved in shaping public policy. Students will also examine the ethical considerations facing today’s leaders and learn how to build organizations that reflect strong values and address 21st-century global politics.
The BS in Political Science and Public Administration degree program can also serve as a foundation for graduate study, including law, allowing students to pursue additional opportunities and advancement in a broad range of professional settings.
Offered by Walden’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, students can choose from the General Program or five concentrations: Global Issues and Social Justice, Law and Legal Studies, Managing in the Public Environment, Public Service Through Civic Engagement and Social Entrepreneurship.
