Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—December 10, 2008—In today’s complex global society, issues are increasingly too broad to be covered by a single discipline or profession. Walden University’s new online Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies program gives students a unique opportunity to define their own course of study and learn skills that can be immediately applied to help meet the needs of today’s employers.
“The BS in Interdisciplinary Studies incorporates themes central to all of Walden’s undergraduate programs: global awareness, social responsibility, civic engagement and information fluency. The Association of American Colleges and Universities cites this type of integrative learning as central to students’ personal success and quality of life in the 21st century,” said Dr. David Mathieu, executive director for Walden’s Center for Undergraduate Studies.
The report, “College Learning for the New Global Century,” published by the National Leadership Council for Liberal Education and America’s Promise and the Association of American Colleges and Universities this year, confirms that today’s students need knowledge and skills from several areas and an advanced ability to analyze, communicate and solve real-world problems—all of which Walden’s BS in Interdisciplinary Studies provides.
In Walden’s BS in Interdisciplinary Studies program, students may select two areas of disciplinary emphasis from Walden’s undergraduate majors. And they may choose from a variety of experiences—including a seminar, internship, study abroad or service-learning, and two research-driven capstone courses—to help broaden their studies. Students can also create an ePortfolio by uploading their assignments as they complete them so that when they graduate, they’ll be able to represent their achievements with an interactive showcase of their work.
In addition to this new undergraduate program, Walden also offers bachelor’s programs in business administration, psychology, child development and computer information systems. For more information on the BS in Interdisciplinary Studies program, visit www.WaldenU.edu.
