Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—October 1, 2007—Walden University, an accredited online institution, will put its mission of effecting positive social change into action on Saturday, Oct. 6, during its second annual National Day of Service. Students, faculty, alumni, administration, and staff will lead community service projects across the country to make a positive impact in their cities and neighborhoods. Volunteers from across the Walden community will donate their time and expertise to benefit their neighbors in need.
A variety of community groups in 12 cities will benefit from the efforts of this weekend’s event. Walden volunteers will help refurbish a middle school in Atlanta, restore a historic mansion in Baltimore, repair homes for senior citizens in Detroit, tutor third- and fourth-graders in Jacksonville, Fla., refurbish a vocational training center in Las Vegas, assist staff at a domestic violence shelter in Savannah, Ga., and help teach self-sufficiency skills at a Washington, D.C. center for homeless persons. “Walden University’s National Day of Service brings our university community together to serve the larger communities around us,” said Jonathan A. Kaplan, JD, president of Walden University.
In additional events in Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Phoenix, the students, alumni, faculty and employee volunteers will help staff soup kitchens and food banks. Volunteers in New Orleans will team up with the Louisiana Peace Corps Association to repaint the exterior of an elderly couple’s home that was damaged in Hurricane Katrina. Food pantries in Denver, Colo., will benefit from fresh produce donated by local farmers partnered with Project Glean and harvested by Walden volunteers.
The National Day of Service is sponsored and coordinated by the Walden University Office of Alumni Relations, www.WaldenU.edu/alumni.
