Laureate Education V.P. Appointed to Maryland Commission on Health Care Workforce Shortage
Baltimore—February 7, 2007—Laureate Education, Inc. (NASDAQ:LAUR), the world’s leading international provider of higher education, is pleased to announce that Barbara R. Heller, EdD, RN, FAAN, vice president strategic initiatives for nursing and health sciences, has been appointed to Maryland’s Statewide Commission on the Shortage in Health Care Workforce. Dr. Heller will serve a two-year term as the Greater Baltimore Committee representative on the Commission, which was enacted as a legislative initiative in 2006.
The Commission was formed to respond to Maryland’s critical shortage of health care workers. Dr. Heller has over 40 years of academic and leadership experience in both public and private institutions in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York. Since 1981, she has held several executive positions with the University of Maryland, including dean of the Nursing School from 1990–2002 and executive director of the Center for Health Workforce Development.
