Minneapolis—February 7, 2007—Walden University, an accredited online institution, and its President Paula E. Peinovich, PhD, have announced the appointment of Denise M. DeZolt, PhD, as provost.
“As provost of the university, Dr. DeZolt will carry on the work of supporting the continued enhancement of the teaching and learning environment at Walden, as well as developing and implementing new initiatives that will move us forward,” Dr. Peinovich said. “She is dedicated to our mission of creating a community of lifelong learners who share a common desire to make a positive social impact.”
Dr. DeZolt will be responsible for academic programs, including curricula and academic policy development and deployment, and academic integrity. She will also be responsible for advancing the teaching and learning environment at the university, focusing on the research agenda, the achievement of student learning outcomes, and maintaining a supportive and nurturing environment for faculty based on an inclusive faculty governance system.
Dr. DeZolt, who served as dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Walden since 2005, was also faculty chair/clinical director and dean of the university’s School of Psychology from 2002 to 2005. Before joining Walden, she was assistant professor in the Division of School Psychology at the University of Albany in New York; assistant professor of school psychology and child/family mental health in the Department of Counseling Psychology at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore; and coordinator of applied training and assistant professor in the School Psychology Program at the University of Rhode Island.
She holds a PhD in school psychology from Kent State University; an MS in Education, counseling, from the University of Dayton; and a BA in behavioral sciences from Plattsburgh State University of New York.
