Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—December 12, 2006—Walden University, an accredited online institution with 36 years of experience providing graduate-level education, has launched a need-based scholarship program to support and promote doctoral study. Known as the Walden University Doctoral Studies Scholarship, the fund is available for new PhD and EdD students across the university and is designed to increase the number of practicing scholars who will produce research to solve problems in their professions and directly implement solutions to important societal issues.
The Walden University Doctoral Studies Scholarship fund will award 100 scholarships of up to $10,000 each, which will be available to new students who meet financial need criteria, in increments of up to $2,000 per financial aid year. Walden University, with nearly 25 percent of its students enrolled in doctoral degree programs, has a strong history of post-graduate-level study in health and human services, psychology, public policy and administration, management and education for working professionals. Professionals with doctorates, especially in these sectors, fill some of the most critical roles in the betterment of society. The Doctoral Studies Scholarship is aimed at easing the financial burden on doctoral students, who typically have large education debt burden.
We are pleased to make these significant funds available to new doctoral students. These students make a considerable commitment to a rigorous research-based education in order to contribute to their professions in meaningful ways. They are the embodiment of the Walden mission, and we want to encourage and support them,” said Paula E. Peinovich, PhD, president of the university.
