Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—June 18, 2005—By developing an articulation agreement with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Walden University is now the only online university that offers credit for students holding SHRM’s Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) certification GPHR designation. Students in Walden’s MBA program or its bachelor’s program in Business Administration are eligible to receive equivalency transfer credit.
Many of Walden’s students are working professionals who possess a wide range of prior experience and education, and have attained professional designations in their fields or industries. For the Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and now the GPHR certification, Walden offers BSBA or MBA course transfer equivalency credit.
“Granting transfer of credit for the GPHR certification was an easy decision given the quality of the SHRM/Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) content and the importance we place on human resources, international business and global management in our curriculum,” said Dr. John Vinton, dean of the School of Management at Walden University.
