Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Minneapolis—April 8, 2005—Walden University has signed articulation agreements with the AACC Future Leaders Institute, the Academy for Leadership and Development, and Antioch University McGregor to address the leadership crisis facing the nation’s community colleges today. These agreements provide a fast track for graduates of these programs to complete their doctoral studies at Walden University, helping to develop and grow future leaders for community colleges.
A March report from the National Council of Instructional Administrators (NCIA) suggests that more than 40 percent of the nation’s community college leaders will retire in six years, another 34 percent between seven and 10 years. The NCIA also notes that many full-time faculty retirements—coinciding with an increase in student enrollment—will produce a serious instructional shortfall during the current decade. In California alone, 50 percent of the faculty will turn over by 2010.
