Walden University recently awarded National Public Service Scholarships to two students who are serving at the national level and pursuing doctorates to enhance their effectiveness in their professional roles in service to their country.
Administered by the Office of the President, this scholarship provides for an annual academic year tuition remission of $1,500 and is renewable annually for three years, provided eligibility requirements continue to be met.
The 2013 recipients are:
Evelyn Dunn
Program: PhD in Public Policy and Administration
Hometown: Atlanta, Ga.
Title: Account manager at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Ga.
Public Service Achievement: Evelyn Dunn has worked in public health for more than 25 years, serving communities in California, New York, and now Georgia. She has primarily worked as a public health analyst at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, addressing budgetary and legislative activities. She has also served as a liaison for the Georgia Congressional Delegation and as a lead for reporting and data analysis.
Public Service Goal: To support research integration into public health practice and make a significant contribution to the field of public health.
Gerly Marc-Harris
Program: PhD in Psychology
Hometown: Washington, D.C.
Title: Grants management specialist at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Rockville, Md.
Public Service Achievement: Gerly Marc-Harris conducts panel discussions, educates grantees about federal regulations and policies, and trains and mentors new employees as a grants management specialist at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She is also active in her community, serving as the chair of the National Congress of Black Women’s Culture of People with Disabilities Committee.
Public Service Goal: To continue to break down barriers to education through her role at the National Congress of Black Women.
