Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

NAME: Robin Nauseef-Cataldo ’11
DEGREE EARNED: MS in Leadership
CURRENT JOB: Controller and human resources manager at Applied Concepts in Tully, N.Y.
HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT WALDEN? I received a postcard in the mail immediately after I finished a two-year community leadership program. I felt strongly that this was a message that I was supposed to continue my education.
WHEN DID YOU KNOW THAT WALDEN WAS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR YOU? When I received positive and encouraging feedback from professors, and classmates were very positive and encouraging. I learned that I was an effective writer and communicator. I think that was my defining moment, to hear a professor tell me I had these abilities. It gave me so much courage.
WHAT DID YOU TAKE AWAY FROM THE PROGRAM? The most significant take away is the confidence I gained. The support of the professors and of my peers enabled me to not only apply what I learned at Walden to my current job as controller/human resources manager but to also seek out additional opportunities as an entrepreneur and volunteer in my community.
WHY DO YOU REFER OTHERS TO WALDEN? My experience at Walden challenged me to use what I learned to make a difference in my community. I now feel very strongly about effecting positive social change. I am currently working to create a partnership among parents, educators, and other community members in our school district to increase student achievement and success. Walden offers a unique perspective to higher education. Its focus on creating positive social change was significant for me, which is why I refer everyone I can—friends who have asked about my program, co-workers, employees, and anyone who wants to continue their education.
