Walden master’s and doctoral graduates are thriving and advancing in their careers
According to the 2016 Walden University Study: Career and Well-Being Outcomes, conducted by Gallup, Walden University masters and doctoral graduates are thriving and advancing in their careers.
Gallup conducted web surveys of Walden masters and doctoral degree holders and a nationally representative sample of graduate degree holders, including an online comparison group. The results of this study demonstrate that Walden’s graduates fare well not only when compared with other online graduates, but also with graduate programs nationally.
Most notably, among graduates who have been promoted, achieved a salary raise or changed careers since obtaining their graduate degrees, Walden graduates are more likely to cite their degree as being important to getting promoted (81% vs. 76% online comparison group and 70% nationally), achieving a salary raise (74% vs. 71% and 69% respectively) and successfully changing careers (82% vs. 76% for both comparison groups).
More findings from the study:
-
Walden’s graduates reflect a more diverse population and are more likely to have been first-generation college students, female and from a racial or ethnic minority group.
-
Walden graduates agree that their graduate school challenged them academically, prepared them well for life outside of graduate school and was the perfect school for people like them.
-
The vast majority of Walden graduates—86%—worked full time while in graduate school, higher than 76% online comparison group and 43% of graduate degree holders nationally.
-
Walden succeeds in creating an online platform that connects people of different backgrounds on a regular basis, exemplified by the fact that Walden alumni are more likely than the online comparison group to agree to strongly agree that they interacted with people from different backgrounds on a regular basis (77% vs. 68%)

The Gallup-Purdue Index was created by Gallup and Purdue University to examine the long-term success of graduates as they pursue a great job and a better life. This index provides insight into the relationship between the university experience and long-term outcomes.
Walden University commissioned Gallup, Inc. in 2016 to survey its graduate-degree alumni using its Gallup-Purdue Index to explore the relationship between Walden graduates’ experiences and long-term outcomes based on their responses to the college outcomes survey.
Results from the Gallup-Walden Study of Graduate Degree Holders are based on web surveys conducted in early 2016. The online comparison group refers to graduate degree holders who completed at least half of their graduate courses online and who were interviewed via the national graduate study.
