Dr. Burt is a contributing faculty member who teaches Social Work. In her role at Walden University, she assists in creating and maintaining a learning environment where academic disciplines interconnect with the Barbara Solomon School of Social Work and serves as the subject matter social work practice expert for Walden's Bachelor of Social Work program, which is also under the Barbara Solomon School of Social Work. Dr. Burt has also worked as an adjunct online faculty member at the University of Phoenix Online and taught two classes in the health sciences area for two years.

Dr. Burt worked for 12 years for the State of Connecticut in the areas of child protective services (treatment social worker, covering 16 towns), elderly protective services (investigative social worker/treatment social worker, covering 11 municipalities), the State Department of Education (program manager covering three school districts) and is a Connecticut Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Massachusetts Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and a Certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT).

Additionally, Dr. Burt served as Supervisor of Social Work and Care Coordination at Bridgeport Hospital/Yale New Haven Health System from 2017-2018, overseeing all social workers across the Inpatient MedSurg Units, Primary Care Clinics, Emergency Department, Maternal Child Health Units, Burn Unit, and ICU. She has mentored, both formally and informally, social workers at Bridgeport, Milford, and Greenwich Hospitals/Yale New Haven Health System's social work staff, in social work and human services for the past ten years.

Dr. Burt has also led the charge in developing a Social Work Signature of Care for the Yale New Haven Health System (7 hospitals) and implementing Uber Health Transportation Service at Bridgeport Hospital’s inpatient units and the emergency department. From 2017 to 2018, she restructured workflows and throughput processes and procedures for the social work team across the MedSurg, Burn Unit, ICUs, Emergency Department, Primary Care Clinics, and Maternal Child Health Units.

In January 2019, Dr. Burt was promoted to Manager of Social Work Services for the Bridgeport/Milford/Greenwich Hospital Campuses, and in April 2022, to Associate Director. Dr. Burt managed all Inpatient and Outpatient areas, including Primary Care Clinics, the Emergency Department, Maternal Child Health, the Burn Unit, and Medical and ICU social workers (both inpatient and outpatient).

As of April 2023, Dr. Burt is the director of social work for the Criminal Defense Practice at the Legal Aid Society in New York, covering all five boroughs and their Social Work Departments. The social work staff and coverage areas include forensic, forensic assistants, mitigation specialists, mental health, incarcerated, women's pre-release, decarceration, post-conviction, parole revocation, criminal appeals, homicide, pre-arraignment, adolescent, exploitation, community liaisons, and misdemeanor arraignment social workers, as well as social work supervisors and assistant supervisors.
