Dr. Govan-Jenkins has been a nurse informaticist since 2003, over sixteen years now. Dr. Govan-Jenkins reside in Upper Marlboro, Maryland (Washington, DC area) with the loves of her life, a 16 year old daughter (Mayla) and and a 14 year-old son (Myles). She is also a dog lover with a tiny 6 year old Maltese name, Maizy, a 2 year old Old English Bulldogge, and our newest addition to the family is a 1 year old Poodle name, Nina.

Dr. Govan-Jenkins educational background consists of obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Salisbury State University in Salisbury, Maryland in 1993, Master’s of Science in (M.S.) Nursing Informatics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus in 2002, Master's in Business Administration (M.B.A.) in 2003 from University of Baltimore online program, and finally my Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from Carlow University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2011. After caring for patients at the bedside for 13 years in various settings (medical surgical, cardiac research, ICU step-down, correctional nursing, telephone triage, and mentally challenged adult group homes) Dr. Govan decided to move into nursing informatics work that included implementing large healthcare application systems in hospitals and ambulatory care settings for the past 15 years.

Dr. Govan-Jenkins has a background as an Associate Faculty for 5 years at the University of Phoenix online program and have been here at Walden University for the past 11 years. Her primary area of teaching are graduate students seeking their master’s in a variety of health information technology degrees. Dr. Govan-Jenkins is currently employed in the federal government for the past 18 years as a Program Manager for various Healthcare Informatics Projects.
