Prof. Smith was awarded his Ph.D. from the University at Albany with subject matter expertise in criminological theories and quantitative analysis. He has been teaching criminal justice and educational theory classes for nearly 20 years and is currently interested in research that attempts to advance our understanding of sexual victimization and cross-cultural applicability of self-control, social learning, and strain theories. Dr. Smith has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, many with former students, and has served as a research consultant for numerous law enforcement and community organizations. He is also a longstanding member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and American Society of Criminology. Professor Smith teaches a wide variety of graduate level courses at Walden University and is currently chairing several dissertation committees investigating law enforcement issues and practices.
