In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Tom Butkiewicz's academic, corporate business, and military experience spans over 25 years. He is a core faculty-research member in the PhD in Management program at Walden University College of Management and Human Potential.
Dr. Butkiewicz is the Faculty Excellence Award recipient for the College of Management and Human Potential, Winter 2023.
Dr. Butkiewicz is the Virtual Program of the Year recipient for the Walden University Virtual Fulbright Chapter, October 2022. He is the Outstanding Leadership Award recipient for the Walden University Virtual Fulbright Chapter, September 2022.
Dr. Butkiewicz is the Faculty Excellence Award recipient for the College of Management and Technology, Winter 2021. He also is the Presidential Award recipient for Faculty Excellence chosen by President Dr. Ward Ulmer, Winter 2021.
Dr. Butkiewicz's experience includes the dissertation chair, second committee member, residency and dissertation intensive lead faculty, and lead faculty for doctoral capstone courses. He also presented research methods and designs at residencies and professional breakout sessions at National Faculty Meetings. He serves as a reviewer for the International Journal of Applied Management and Technology, Online Learning Consortium, American Management Association, and Walden University Research Grants. Dr. Butkiewicz functioned as a committee member on the Curriculum and Academic Policy Committee. He is on the leadership board as vice president for the Walden University Virtual Fulbright Chapter. He also serves as a faculty advisor for the National Society of Leadership and Success. He is the faculty advisor for the PhD in Management Fellowship program. The American Psychological Association elected Dr. Butkiewicz to the status of associate member. Dr. Butkiewicz is a chair, steering committee co-lead, and presentation leadership mentor for the Online Learning Consortium. The Harvard Business Review selected Dr. Butkiewicz to their advisory council for management and leadership research.
Dr. Butkiewicz’s research interests are management, leadership, organizational behavior, and business strategy for outcomes of positive social change. His initial research comprised examining first-line managers’ leadership practices, emotional intelligence, and workplace spirituality in the manufacturing industry. Dr. Butkiewicz contributed a chapter in two books and conducted leadership book reviews. He also presented at executive manufacturing conferences across the United States.
Dr. Butkiewicz honorably served 20 years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and retired as an operations officer (Chief Warrant Officer; CWO-3). His leadership experience illuminates him as an internationally certified leadership speaker, coach, and trainer inducted into the Whitehead Leadership Society.
