Tessie Harris

Dr. Tessie Harris (Tessie) has been a contributing faculty member of Walden University since 2018. She has taught several courses in the MSN/PMHNP program. She began her college career at Coastal Alabama Community College. She earned an associate degree in nursing in 2003. She continued to move forward at Auburn University in Montgomery pursing a bachelor's degree in nursing graduating with honors in 2005. Tessie desired to have more autonomy in patient care earning her master's in nursing with a specialization in Family Nurse Practitioner in 2008 from Troy University. She pursued her doctorate, being conferred in 2014 from Troy University. Her doctoral work was published in the Journal of Nursing and Healthcare (2015) titled “The Implementation of an Exercise by Prescription Program in Middle-aged Hypertensive African American Women”. Tessie received her second Master's of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatry/ Mental Health from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2015. She is a devoted mother of 3 children and employed full time with the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a role model to many she shares interests in philanthropy.
