In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Taniko King-Jordan, a dedicated advocate for social justice and equity, was born and raised in Sacramento, California. As a Licensed Master’s Leveled Social Worker (LMSW), her professional journey has been marked by a profound commitment to addressing intersectionality and social disparities that impact the development of communities of color.
With over a decade of experience in cross-cultural clinical and community practice, Dr. King-Jordan has been a catalyst for positive change in the lives of adolescents, young adults, and families. Her dynamic career spans both government and non-profit sectors, as well as the higher education sector where she has provided invaluable services and advocacy, empowering individuals to find their voice in the face of challenges.
Dr. King-Jordan approaches the field of social work with a keen awareness of its complexities, working tirelessly to champion social justice and reciprocity for disenfranchised groups. In addition to her impactful practice, she has served as a full-time faculty member for the past seven years, offering her expertise across the curriculum at both the BSW and MSW levels.
Recognizing her outstanding contributions, the Council of Social Work Education honored Dr. King-Jordan by selecting her for the prestigious Program Director Academy in 2017, acknowledging her leadership and dedication to advancing the field.
Dr. King-Jordan's research interests encompass a broad spectrum of social justice implications for marginalized groups. Her focus includes but is not limited to child welfare, emerging foster youth of color, at-risk youth, equity in leadership, women of color, and restorative justice. Her commitment to exploring these critical areas reflects her dedication to creating positive change on both individual and systemic levels.
Dr. King-Jordan earned her Doctor of Social Work from the School of Public Service Leadership at Capella University in Minneapolis, MN. Prior to this, she completed her Masters of Social Work and Bachelors of Art in Social Work at the Department of Social Work, California State University, Sacramento, CA.
