In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Tammy D. Evans, is a distinguished leader with a multifaceted career rooted in criminal justice, community service, nonprofit innovation, and higher education. With more than 20 years of hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership and extensive service as an academic administrator and professor, she has made a lasting impact on both social change and academic excellence.
A recognized trailblazer, Dr. Evans founded and served as the Chief Leadership Officer of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the marketability of low-income individuals, welfare-to-work participants, and women overcoming domestic violence. Under her leadership, the organization delivered a comprehensive suite of services—including vocational education, job-readiness training, coaching, and employment placement—empowering thousands of individuals and contributing to meaningful community development.
In a groundbreaking initiative, Dr. Evans forged strategic partnerships with law enforcement agencies and nonprofit organizations funded through the New Jersey Prison System, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Health and Human Services. These collaborations resulted in innovative programs that expanded training and employment opportunities for justice-involved individuals, strengthened reentry outcomes, reduced recidivism, and advanced pathways to self-sufficiency for individuals and their families. Over 18 years, the program served more than 20,000 individuals before closing in 2018, leaving a legacy of transformative impact.
Dr. Evans holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration with a specialization in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. She also earned three Master of Science degrees in Nonprofit Management (MNM), Public Administration (MPA), and an Executive Master of Business Administration (eMBA). Her combined academic expertise and real-world leadership experience position her as a respected thought leader across nonprofit, corporate, and academic sectors.
